Google Play Store not working? Fix it

Posted at  6:16 PM 0

When on the Google Play Store, we very often get this No Connection – Retry error message simply at times when we least expect it. This error usually comes up when Google Play Store app cannot connect to the Internet on your Android phone or the tablet.

Normally you can see that this network problem seem to be stuck with Google Play Store app only since everything else is well connected and working. Many a times we replace, reinstall it but to no avail. So here are a few tips and
how-to solutions on how you can get rid of this fretting problem.

 1. Fix Date and Time Settings

It works 80 percent of the time. Google Play Services sync with their master servers to send and receive data, to do this your device time and date should be correctly set. Most of us change time settings to cheat extra lives on Candy Crash Saga and later that turned out to be the main culprit behind connection error issue.

  • Go to Settings > Date & Time
  • Check Automatic date & time
  • Or alternatively, you can set time by yourself, just make sure it is correct.

2. Empty the cache

To fight the No Connection – Retry error message on Google Play Store app on your Android devices try to clear the Play Store cache since this could be a reason of this error of repeatedly getting this network error message. To do this,
  • Go to Settings > App
  • Scroll down to All apps
  • Go to Google Play Store
  • Open the app details and tap the Force stop button to reach to the cache clearing button namely Clear Cache.
That’s all what you needed to do to clear out the app cache. Restart your app and you might have just got rid of the No Connection – Retry error message on the Google Play Store app.

3. Delete Data

If the Above tip didn’t work, then you can try deleting the data from the Play Store. This pretty much sets the app back to square one and gets rid of a lot of saved information. The option is again found by following the same route as above, but this time you tap on ‘Delete Data’.

4. Change or Re-login your Google Account

If you previously changed the security settings or password of your Google account. You need to update the account settings on your Android device. Also, you can switch to other account.
  • Go to Settings > Accounts > Google
  • Tap your primary Google account
  • Open options from right top corner, click remove account.
  • Now open Play Store, it will ask you to login your Google account again.

5. Activate Download Manager

If you have deactivated the Download Manager, Google Play won’t work anymore. To get it back, go to Settings, then App Manager (or equivalent) and all apps. Search for Download Manager and tap on the activate button. However, if this button says deactivate, no worries, this means that the Download Manager is already active.

6. Remove any proxy or VPN software

Remove any existing proxy or VPN services and connect directly to the internet before accessing Play Store.
  • Go to Wireless & Network, modify your WiFi settings, go to advanced options and remove any proxy servers.
  • Disconnect any VPN connection or apps you have running in background.

7. Delete hosts file

For advanced users only. If you rooted your Android device, do the following.
  • Open File Manager App.
  • Browse to root/system/etc.
  • Delete hosts.txt file

8. Perform a Factory Data Reset your Phone/Tablet

If you’ve done everything written above and still to no avail, then you might need to resort to the ultimate step of performing a Factory Data Reset of your phone. This could be your only way out of Google Play misery. However, be forewarned that all of your data will be lost, so it is super important to perform a complete backup beforehand.
  • Go to Settings > Backup & reset
  • Click Factory Data Reset
  • Reset Device
Your smartphone will start anew and revert back to how it was when you first got it. Once the process is complete, you can set it up again as before and restore the backup.

We hope that these tips and tricks have helped you get Google Play working again.
